Museum Island
The Museum Island (Museumsinsel) in Berlin was given this name because it houses a complex of world-renowned museums, including the Pergamon Museum, Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Bode Museum and the Alte Nationalgalerie.
The world-famous Museum Island in Berlin sits on the Spree river, very close to the heart of the city. It is one of the most renowned museum complexes in the globe.
The enclave, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, includes five prestigious museums that feature important archaeological and art collections.
During the Second World War various of the island’s buildings were damaged terribly, and took years to restore, like the Neues Museum, reopened in 2009.
