Dresde & Meissen Day Trip
Day Trip Details
We'll meet at the indicated time in front of Panorama The Wall, very close to Berlin's famous Checkpoint Charlie, to begin this day trip to Dresden and Meissen.
First, we'll head to Dresden, the former capital of Saxony. Upon arrival, we'll make our first stop at the Semper Opera House and Zwinger Palace, considered the finest examples of German Baroque architecture. Then we'll head to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, an imposing 18th-century building constructed of sandstone.
As we walk through the centre of Dresden, we'll arrive at the Fürstenzug, also known as the Procession of Princes. There, we'll see the world's longest mosaic, made of 24,000 porcelain tiles, representing German monarchs from over 800 years of history.
After the guided tour of Dresden, you'll have 2 hours of free time to have lunch at a traditional Saxon restaurant. Feeling refuelled, we'll head to Meissen, the birthplace of famous German porcelain.
Once there, we'll make our first stop at the Meissen porcelain factory, which has a charming tradition dating back more than 300 years. There, we'll take a tour with an audio guide in English, which will allow us to learn about the skills of the artists in creating pieces that are unique in the world.
Next, we'll walk through the medieval streets to reach the Market Square, where the Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady are located. We'll also visit the hill on which Albert's Castle and Meissen Cathedral stand, both offering fantastic views of the Elbe River valley.
Finally, we'll make our way back to Berlin. We'll be back at the initial meeting point after a total of 12 hours.
